Type K temperature to millivolt converter

Convert a Type K process temperature in degrees Celsius to the nominal EMF in millivolts at a 0 °C reference junction, showing which two verified reference points the value sits between.

Verified Type K span: -200 °C to 1370 °C.

Verified reference points

-200→-5.891 · -100→-3.554 · 0→0 · 100→4.096 · 200→8.138 · 300→12.209 · 400→16.397 · 500→20.644 · 600→24.905 · 700→29.129 · 800→33.275 · 900→37.326 · 1000→41.276 · 1100→45.119 · 1200→48.838 · 1300→52.41 · 1370→54.819 (mV)

Result

Enter a process temperature in degrees Celsius to see the nominal Type K EMF.

Method

Linear interpolation between adjacent published reference points at 100 °C spacing, at a 0 °C reference junction. This is the nominal standardised curve, your spool's actual output sits within its tolerance class of it.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What does this Type K temperature to millivolt converter give me?

The EMF a Type K thermocouple should develop at the temperature you enter, at a 0 °C reference junction. It is the same verified reference set used the other way round, useful for setting an instrument's expected reading, sizing a signal range, or checking a loop against a known temperature.

Does the result include the tolerance of my wire?

No. The table value is the nominal EMF for a standardised Type K pair to IEC 60584-1 / ASTM E230. A real spool sits somewhere inside its tolerance class of that nominal curve, which is what a batch EMF certificate proves. Treat this figure as the reference, not as your spool's guaranteed output.

Why can the answer differ slightly from my instrument?

Three common reasons: the cold junction in your instrument is not held at 0 °C, the input is being corrected by a fitted polynomial rather than the reference points, or the wire itself is outside its class band. The tool states the interpolated bracket so you can tell a rounding difference from a real offset.

Can I use this for Type J, T, E, N, R, S or B?

No, and deliberately so. Only Type K has a complete verified millivolt table in our reference data. Publishing a converter for the other types would mean inventing values between published points, so those types are supplied with a batch EMF certificate against IEC 60584-1 / ASTM E230 instead.

Need a certified Type K spool?

Send the gauge, accuracy class and run length, we supply bare and stranded Type K with a furnace-batch-traceable EMF certificate.
